My Hero!
I asked him: “How many times have you had cancer?” He looked at me, smiled, and said, “I have had three relapses. A relapse means that you have cancer for a certain time, then it’s gone and comes back unexpectedly. So every time I thought it was finally gone, it would come back in…”
This story is about my father’s journey of living with blood cancer. I’ll discuss his experiences, the challenges he’s faced, and the moments of strength and hope that have carried him through. This story aims to inspire those who are currently on a similar path.
How long have you had blood cancer, and what type of blood cancer did you have?
It’s been 11 years since I had blood cancer, and it’s been approximately 8–9 years since I was on medication after the diagnosis. I had Lymphoma it’s a common type of blood cancer, but mine was non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma Alc+ which is rare.
Did anyone in your family have blood cancer before you? If so, was it hereditary?
- No, no one had blood cancer before, so it was not hereditary.
What stage of cancer did you have when you first discovered it?
It was stage 4.
How did you find out that you needed to get a blood cancer checkup?
I got a fever one day, and it didn’t go away for a long time. Then I went to see a doctor. The first time I got a fever, I was going to the US, and I could feel that I was a little unwell, but I didn’t know why. Then I came back, and my health deteriorated significantly, and the fever did not subside. I got admitted to a hospital, and a series of tests were conducted. A lot of things happened during the tests, and it appeared that I had something more than a fever. They did lots of tests for TB and various elements, but when they couldn’t find anything, they finally decided to explore the possibility of cancer, and the cancer tests confirmed the diagnosis.
How did you keep a positive mindset? How are you keeping a positive mindset?
One has to live life; you cannot change what has happened already, but you can change the future. I had to take care of my family, but then my family took care of me, and I had to keep myself busy, so I started a company, and I got busy in that. I generally thought, “How can I live the current day than think about the future?” My family gave me strength and hope, and I fought one battle after another.
